A Taste of Tradition in the Heart of IT Park

Kubu—a word that brings back memories of a simpler life. A kubu is a native Filipino house, usually made of nipa and bamboo, often found in the countryside. These traditional homes are rare in cities today, but they hold a special place in my heart. I vividly remember my younger days in the province, where my Lola’s kubu stood in the middle of a rice field. We’d gather there as a family, enjoying hearty meals with the cool breeze blowing through the open windows. It was home in every sense of the word.

Now, let me take you back to the city—right in the heart of Cebu’s IT Park—where a restaurant named Kubu has become one of my family’s absolute favorites. Located where the Hawaiian spot Shakaused to be, Kubu opened its doors in late November 2022. Since then, it’s been a go-to place for us.

This two-storey gem offers a cozy Filipino ambiance with a modern twist. The second floor is especially charming, giving you a great view of the bustling IT Park and the lively Sugbo Mercado area.

Kubu serves traditional Filipino dishes that are close to home. Their sisig and barbecue platter are superb—always part of our order! We also love their pancit, tuna panga, and comforting soups like tinola, fish soup, or sometimes sinigang for that perfect asim-kilig moment.

What surprised us most was the price—very reasonable for the quality and serving size. When we first dined here in 2022, we were impressed by the value. And did I mention how close it is to my home? Just a few minutes away!

Kubu is perfect for dates, family dinners, or special gatherings. Just make sure to reserve in advance—especially on weekends and holidays—as it gets quite packed. And whatever you do, don’t miss out on their refreshing home-brewed fruit juices. They’re a must!

I’m giving Kubu a perfect ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. I’ll definitely be back soon!
