A Cozy Spring Feast at Ppongip Sarang Shabu Shabu
📍 Near Doksan Station, Seoul

It was a chilly spring night in Seoul, the kind that makes you crave something warm and comforting. After work, one of my oppas invited me for a cozy dinner, and little did I know I was in for such a memorable first shabu shabu experience in Korea!

We met up near Doksan Station and walked to a charming little spot called 뽕잎사랑 샤브샤브 (Ppongip Sarang Shabu Shabu) — which roughly means “Mulberry Leaf Love Shabu Shabu.” From the moment we stepped inside, I felt the warmth of the place. It had that inviting, homey vibe that makes you feel instantly at ease, like you’re about to be served some lovingly prepared homemade food.

To start the night off, oppa ordered Boeun Bokbunja Wine (보은 복분자주) — a bold and flavorful Korean black raspberry wine. It was strong, but I loved the taste (I mean, who can resist berries, right?).

And then came the banchan — endless little side dishes that made me feel like a queen! I requested the soup to be extra spicy (because that’s how I roll), and it did not disappoint.

Now, the shabu shabu itself? Absolutely divine.
- The meat was tender and full of flavor.
- The vegetables, dumplings, mushrooms, and freshly made noodles were simply perfect.
- The soup was rich, well-seasoned, and comforting.
- A special shout-out to the fish cake and fresh mung beans — they brought such a lovely texture to each bite.

But the best part? The seafood — particularly the octopus and shrimp — my absolute favorites!

After all that goodness, we wrapped up the feast with a sizzling bokkeumbap, mixed right at our table using the remaining soup broth. It was the perfect ending to a perfect meal.
We laughed, reminisced about the past, and celebrated our years of friendship. It’s amazing how a simple meal can bring back so many beautiful memories.
My Verdict: 5/5 Stars

If you’re in Seoul, don’t miss this hidden gem near Doksan Station. Delicious food, a cozy atmosphere, reasonable prices, and the kind of meal that leaves both your stomach and heart full.

I’ll definitely be back this year to try the rest of their menu!
